I'd love to hear your views on this, and any tips you may have for squeezing writing in, and squeezing the guilt out when you just don't have the time or opportunity.

How Do You Cope With Christmas and Writing?
Quick question for the festive season - what do you all do when it comes to Christmas and writing? Do you just accept that with guests and visiting others, and a general propensity to over eat and then subsequently snooze at unusual times, that writing will take a back seat for a few days whilst you spend some quality and (hopefully!) peaceful, joyous times with family and friends? Or do you still endeavour to cram some in, even if that's at 2am when everyone else has gone to bed (or is still playing rather vile shoot-em-ups on a games console?) And if you don't manage to get some writing in, do you feel guilty about it?

Christmas for me means a couple of days visiting family, and then some valuable free time. I plan on using some of that time to do research for my novel, ready for starting the second draft in January. My wife and I have been firm this year though, and said the time is our own after Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

That sounds like a great plan, Phil. I hope all the research and writing goes well. I'll definitely be taking a tip from this, if I get a chance between guests.

Well, we don't have guests, and our only invitation is for a few hours, so I think I shall manage. If I had a house full I'd send them off to the beach while I wrote - or in England, send them on a Welly Walk!
ReplyDeleteI think with the weather we've been having, a welly walk would have been most appropriate. As it was we stayed in and had a lovely time playing a board game, with lots of laughs. It's rare to all get together, so it's definitely important to take advantage of the opportunity I think. Hope you had a lovely one too!
